The Central Jewish Council of Greece expresses its congratulations to PAE Aris and Maccabi Haifa for the strong message against intolerance and anti-Semitism that they sent from the Kleanthis Vikelidis stadium in Thessaloniki during the friendly football match, held on 4.12.2022.
Hellenic Jewry welcomes the decision of the two groups to donate the proceeds of the match to the construction of the Holocaust Museum of Greece in Thessaloniki. This is an action of substance, an action of memory of the 50.000 Jews of Thessalonica who were exterminated by the Nazis and their collaborators in the German death camps.
The two teams demonstrated their active commitment to creating a climate of solidarity and mutual respect on the pitches, in the field of sports, but also in the wider society, and are a bright example to be followed in the fight against bigotry, anti-Semitism and violence.

The Central Jewish Council of Greece expresses the deep sadness of Greek Jewry for the fact that innocent people are victims of a blind and ruthless terrorism that once again struck the people of Israel, this time in Jerusalem.
We sympathize with the pain of the family who mourns the loss of a young man of 16 years and we wish a speedy recovery to the dozens injured. We sympathize with the Israeli citizens who face the threat of terrorist attacks in their daily lives and hope that sanity will finally prevail so that a solution can be reached that will put an end to the bloodshed of innocents.

More: KISE'S ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE TERRORIST ATTACK IN JERUSALEM
On today's 84th anniversary of the night of 9-10 November 1938, recorded in history as "Kristallnacht", we reflect on our debt and responsibility to the new generation. Because it is our generation's duty and responsibility to pass on knowledge and preserve memory to future generations.
Η "Crystal Night" it was the beginning of the systematic actions of the extermination of the Jews, the springboard for the implementation of the "Final Solution" planned by the Hitler regime for the total extermination of the Jews. It was the Night that marked humanity's darkest page, the holocaust, with the destruction, desecration and burning of hundreds of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in Germany and Austria. They broke shop windows, looted and burned books...

We were informed that at the meeting of the Council of Ministers on 30th August 2022, the recommendation of the Minister of Justice for the appointment of Ms. Marianthis Pagouteli to the position of Vice President of the Supreme Court was approved.
Ms. Pagouteli had voted in the minority in the court of first instance in favor of the acquittal of Constantinos Pleuris during the well-known trial for his anti-Semitic book "Jews, the whole truth". Ms. Pagouteli had drawn up an extensive reasoning of 32 pages, justifying the anti-Semitic views of K. Pleuris.
The Central Jewish Council of Greece articulates the strong displeasure of Greek Jewry for the placement at the top of the Judiciary of a person who will not be able to defend the stated position of the Greek State against anti-Semitism, and indeed as the Vice President of the Supreme Court of our country.
We are sure that the Greek Justice will guard the values of the Republic against the followers of intolerance and anti-Semitism.

On the "Black Saturday" of July 11, 1942 in Eleftheria Square in Thessaloniki, the German occupiers deported 9.000 Jews of Thessaloniki and implemented the "Final Solution" plan which caused the displacement and extermination of 45.000 Thessalonian Jews.
Freedom Square marks the place where the Nazis began to dehumanize people who were born Jewish. It is the beginning of the "absolute evil" that led to the Holocaust of 6.000.000 Jews, among them, 60.000 Greek Jews, many of whom, defending their homeland, fought against the Italian and German invaders and breathed their last in the concentration camps with the Greece deeply rooted in their soul.
Exactly eighty years later, we hope that the commitment of the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Konstantinos Zervas and Freedom Square will be realized it will finally acquire its historical character as a place of Remembrance for the thousands of Jews who were tortured by the Nazis before being sent to the forced labor and then to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.
