The new terrorist strike of the "Islamic State" organization in the city Hedera of northern Israel, just days after the bloody attack in Beersheba, demonstrates the rise of religious fanaticism and hatred against Jews on the same day of a historic meeting of the foreign ministers of Israel, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco.
The Central Israeli Council of Greece condemns once again Islamic extremism and terrorism with victims of innocent citizens. Fanaticism - no matter where it comes from - under the guise of deliberately distorted religious precepts, fuels hatred, arms the hands of murderers and reignites bloodshed, undermining any prospect of peace and prosperity in the region.

Freedom Square in Thessaloniki has been identified in the memory of Greek Jews as a square of human humiliation, as a square of human inhumanity, as a square that symbolizes the beginning of the campaign to exterminate the city's Jewish population. Where on the black Saturday of July 11, 1942, the German occupiers deported 9.000 Jews of Thessaloniki and implemented the "Final Solution" plan that caused the displacement and extermination of 45.000 Thessaloniki Jews.

Our story is coming home!
It is with immense emotion that the Central Jewish Council of Greece and the Greek Jews welcome the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to return the archives of the Greek Jewish Communities - and especially of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, from where the Nazis, on 11.7.1942, snatched archives , books and religious objects from 30 Synagogues of Thessaloniki, from libraries and from Community institutions. After the occupation of Berlin by the Soviet army, in May 1945, these archives were transferred to Moscow.

TThe Central Jewish Council of Greece unequivocally condemns the new terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem which caused the death of one Israeli and the wounding of three others. Every terrorist attack against innocent citizens of Israel takes away the hope of peace and dynamizes every effort for harmonious coexistence of Israelis and Palestinians in the region.
We express our sadness and condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Israel.
