As the events for the 80th anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews of Rhodes and Kos (1944 – 2024) have already started, from 16.7.24 in Rhodes, and will be completed in Kos, on 22.7.2024, a sensational exhibition in Milan honors the tragic anniversary by presenting data on the 1.817 displaced Jews of the Dodecanese.

The exhibition "The Jews of Rhodes - Eclipse of a Community, 1944 - 2024" on display until September 2, 2024 at the Shoah Museum and Memorial Center, operating in the underground tunnels beneath Milan Central Station.

The exhibition was curated by the Contemporary Jewish Documentation Foundation (CDEC) and the Shoah Memorial Foundation, with sources from Yad Vashem and the Rhodes Foundation for Jewish History, Los Angeles, USA.

The installation consists of 1.817 threads hanging from the ceiling of the Museum, unequal to each other, with the length of each thread representing the age of the victim. Each thread results in a tab with the victim's name and available demographics.

The report also includes one "Digital Memorial" of the Jews of Rhodes and Kos (HERE), in which the online visitor sees the 1.817 names, sorted by age group, and can visit each person's personal tab by "clicking" on each name. The digital memorial is open for input. (The exhibition website HERE)

Holocaust survivor Italian Senator Liliana Segre (photo) was also present at the opening of the exhibition.
