On Monday, June 30, 2025, the Jewish Museum of Greece honored its American Friends, in the person of Dr. Dimitris Argyriadis, longtime member and Secretary of the Council of American Friends of the Jewish Museum of Greece and donor to the Museum, with the unveiling of an honorary plaque.
During the modest ceremony, another plaque was unveiled, in honor of the American Friends for their long-standing contribution to the Museum.
The ceremony was addressed by the Director of the EME, Janet Battinou, who spoke about her personal acquaintance with Mr. Argyriadis and how much he encouraged and inspired her when she had taken up her position at the Museum, while noting the great love and appreciation she always has for him.
Afterwards, the president of the EME, Mikis Modiano, spoke passionately about the importance of its American Friends for the EME, whom he invited to continue supporting our Museum, as well as about the work, ethos and contribution of Mr. Argyriadis and his valuable contribution to the very existence of the EME.
In his brief intervention, Victor Asser, member of the Board of Directors of SFEME, stated that the association with a man like Mr. Argyriadis inspired our fathers, us ourselves and will also inspire our children.
After the unveiling of the plaque, the honoree took the floor, moved, and spoke eloquently about the years he and Nikos Stavroulakis spent traveling around the area looking for a suitable building that would house the Museum and its objects.
He spoke about the years and the vision that Freddy Abravanel and Sam Benrubi had and thanked the Museum staff who, through their work, ensure that it is kept alive.
The ceremony concluded with a small cocktail party held in the Synagogue area.
