From July 24 to 29, 2023, the 5th Mediterranean Meeting of Cello Classes will take place in Corfu. 60 cello students and 16 professors from 8 countries meet at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University to "conquer" the island of Corfu for a week with the sounds of the cello.

The international institution, which started on the initiative of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University in the summer of 2016, returns again to the place where it all began, after a magical journey full of music, in the countries of the Mediterranean.

The aim of this meeting is to encourage direct cooperation between the musical educational institutions of the wider Mediterranean region and the highlighting of the particular musical & cultural characteristics of the Mediterranean countries, through a stable framework for the exchange of good practices, joint artistic creation and the development of joint research activities, relating to the performance and teaching of the cello.

The teachers who participate in the Mediterranean Meetings of Cello Classes are always accompanied by their students. The program of these meetings includes lessons, workshops, cello recitals by the professors and culminates in an impressive concert by a cello orchestra made up of all participating students.

This year, for the first time, two universities from the other side of the Atlantic have been invited to participate. Who in particular will participate in the meeting, the Louisiana State University of the USA? and the State University of Brasilia, Brazil.
