In his statement Spyros Kapralos said the decision "directly violates the fundamental principles of international sport — equality, neutrality and respect between nations."
"Sport must remain a bridge between nations, not a weapon of division. Continued political interference could erode the very foundations of international sport. Politics has no place in sport." "Indonesia has proven once again that it does not uphold the spirit or responsibilities of a global sports hosting country," said S. Capralos, calling on the international community to adopt "stronger measures" against discrimination in sport.
