The challenge to keep the Jewish state democratic. A state of social, cultural and cultural pluralism.
Political instability in Israel continues, with undiminished interest, but without the possibility of a stable government appearing realistic.
The need for an agreement between different parties representing not only different political approaches, but different worldviews, different cultural currents, is imperative for solving the political crisis plaguing Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu may still retain the authority of the undisputed leader, but he is now unable to win the trust of even his close former political allies.
The only ones who remain his loyal partners in power are the representatives of the religious parties and of course a far-right formation that Netanyahu himself is responsible for creating in his attempt to hurt the emerging leader of the Israeli right Naftali Bennett.
The "Bibi" of public opinion, the man who from 2009 to 2019 was an integral part of political stability, in the last two years has been the key figure of political instability in Israel.
The forces of "change", whose common goal is to ostracize Netanyahu from the prime ministership, are a spectrum of disparate forces that spread from the two Arab parties, penetrate the parties of the left and the center, and reach all the way to the right.
But is the replacement of a prime minister sufficient reason for the formation of a government coalition? Why is "change" necessary?
- Because if a new Netanyahu government relies on a coalition where the religious parties will determine its decisions, then the very secular character of the state of Israel, the social cohesion and the multiculturalism of the Jewish state are endangered.
- Because if the survival of a new Netanyahu government depends on the "Religious Zionism" party, then racial passion and hatred will play a catalytic role in the decision-making process and encourage the adoption of violence as a means that replaces dialogue and negotiation to find a solution that will allow Israelis and Palestinians to coexist.
- Why a new Netanyahu government that will be based on religious parties and the extreme right, will target the institution of Justice in order to cover up the corruption scandals for which the Israeli prime minister himself is accused.
Netanyahu "change" is necessary, not because he himself was a failed prime minister. On the contrary... He was a prime minister who contributed catalytically to the economic development of Israel, effectively utilizing the human resources of his country.
He forged Israel's security in the face of the Iranian nuclear threat and signed the peace "Abraham Accords", with sworn enemies of Israel, and finally, opened new horizons of strategic cooperation in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
However, his replacement is now considered necessary, both by right-wing parties and by centrist and left-wing parties in Israel.
Society needs respites from religious fanaticism, hatred and corruption.
It will not be easy to govern the country from a coalition of such heterogeneous ideological and political currents.
But it will be the first time that at least one Arab party will participate in the same governing council with its fanatical opponents such as Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Lieberman, genuine exponents of intransigence, but not of intolerance.
Israel's history is written by challenges, and "change" is yet another challenge for Israelis to ensure that the Jewish state remains a democratic state, a state of social, cultural and cultural pluralism.
