Journalist Stephen Sotloff, who was beheaded by Islamic State jihadists, was Jewish, held dual Israeli and American citizenship and had studied in Israel, according to information released today (September 3, 2014), a day after the shocking video was released. of his beheading. The White House believes the video showing Sotloff's beheading is genuine.
A friend of Sotloff's during his captivity told the Israeli newspaper "Yedyot Achronot" that Sotloff was Jewish, a fact he hid from his guards, while he had even managed to observe the Kippur fast. "He told them he was sick and didn't want to eat, even when they served us eggs that day," his friend said. “He used to pray secretly facing Jerusalem. He would look in which direction his captors were praying and then adjust the angle."

It is a fact that the war in Gaza caused pain and suffering for the death of many innocent people, who were most often used as human shields by the terrorist groups of Hamas to provoke the condemnation of Israel by international public opinion. As the number of victims increased, so did the operation to demonize the very existence of the State of Israel by many warheads in our country, who do not hesitate to compare Gaza to Auschwitz and Israelis to the Nazis. They choose to blame Israel for a war that Hamas imposed and for a crime against the Palestinian people that it itself is committing. They forget, however, that if Israel did not have the means to protect its own citizens (shelters, Israeli-made anti-missile systems, etc.), then there would be thousands of victims from the nearly 4.000 Hamas rockets against the civilian population. Hamas, therefore, remains in the fireproof zone for them. Just as invulnerable are the jihadist fanatics who spread terror and death to ordinary people (Muslims and Christians) in Iraq, Syria, Sudan and elsewhere. The hypocrisy in all its glory that reveals, however, their anti-Semitic mentality.

The Middle East is on fire. Over 1000 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip targeting Israeli civilians in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Ashdod port to Haifa in Northern Israel. Six million Israelis live under the threat of rocket fire from Hamas, which has a declared goal of destroying Israel, with a long history of terror attacks against civilians. The fact that Israelis are not grieving thousands of casualties from this recent merciless attack is due to the safeguards Israel has taken for the safety of its citizens, with the use of the Iron Dome anti-missile system and early warning of citizens to evacuate in shelters.
The Central Jewish Council of Greece, representing all the Israeli Communities of our country, expresses its solidarity with the citizens and the State of Israel which is once again forced to assert its self-evident right to exist safely.
An Open Letter was addressed - on 23.7.14 - by Israeli MP David Tsur, chairman of the Israel-Greece Friendship Committee of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) to the Greeks, on the occasion of the recent events in Israel and the Gaza Strip:
Dear Greek friends,
As a long-time friend and admirer of Greece and as someone who has worked tirelessly to promote Israel-Greece relations in my capacity as head of the Israel-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, I have been saddened by some recent statements in Greece which distort the reality about the current conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Israel did not seek this conflict and took many efforts to avoid it. But we were finally forced to act because of Hamas' incessant daily attacks on our citizens. In recent weeks Hamas has fired more than 1.850 rockets into Israel putting nearly 6 million people at risk, forcing them to run for shelters every time a rocket is fired. Hamas and other terrorist organizations in Gaza are targeting Israel with over 15.000 rockets. No country in the world would tolerate such a threat against its civilian population. Israel is no exception.

WHEN HATE IS STRONGER THAN WILL
With the relentless war waged by Hamas to destroy Israel, it has achieved two goals.
The first consists in the fact that it prevents any possibility of reaching a solution that would provide for two states for two peoples. No Israeli government, right or left, will agree to the creation of a Palestinian state with Hamas as the protagonist of the developments. Because if rockets from Gaza are dangerous to the safety of Israeli citizens in southern and central Israel, rockets from the Palestinian cities of Ramallah and Jericho could bring about the violent dismemberment of the country and would place its inhabitants in a permanent hostage situation. .. […]Israel has a right – like every country in the world – to defend its citizens, it has the right to exist in safety. Many people forget this or take it for granted. It's not like that at all. A simple trip of a few days to Israel reveals how much the organization that can provide security to its citizens is integrated into the daily life of this country. For example, all houses and apartments in Israel built after 2005 are required to have a security room with specifications capable of withstanding powerful rocket blasts. Every apartment building has a shelter. Safety drills take place at least 2-3 times a month. All schools have terrorist attack protection infrastructure and staff trained to evacuate within minutes. At every entrance to a restaurant, cinema, shopping center, the passage and objects are checked with machines and personnel, just like in airports. How many have ever wondered what all this means for the daily life of a State and a people? In what other State in the developed world can one imagine even 10% of all this as part of their daily life? … Read the whole article here.

of THANOS TZIMERO, founder and president of the political movement "Creation, again!" & Regional Councilor of Attica
A war that lasts 60 years is an absurd war. In a war there is no good and bad. There are opponents who violently defend their interests. And violence is always inhumane.
There are fanatics on both sides – they usually win. There are pacifists on both sides – they usually lose. But the recent Israel-Hamas conflict is not a conflict between some Jews and some Palestinians. It is a war episode between the state of Israel and the military wing of the stronger of the two political forces of the Palestinian state, Hamas.
What is Hamas' position on Israel? The complete disappearance. Its destruction and its replacement with a Palestinian Islamic state in what is now Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. How is this going to be done; Of course with holy war. The Hamas declaration speaks of jihad. Does anyone think this is possible? Does anyone think that the Israelis, possessors of nuclear weapons, will sit idly by? So where does Hamas's vision lead? In a holocaust, primarily of Palestinians.
* Article by ALAN DERSHOWITZ, Jerusalem Post, 14 July 2014
The current war between Hamas and Israel dispels many of the myths that have been accepted as gospel by much of the world's public opinion and media.
Myth 1st: The main cause of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is the occupation of the West Bank and Israel's settlement policy.
Reality: The reality is that the rocket attacks carried out by Hamas against Israeli cities and political targets have little to do with the Israeli occupation and settlements in the West Bank. Even if Israel made peace with the Palestinian Authority, the rocket attacks from Gaza would not stop. These Hamas attacks are inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran, Syria and others who oppose the very idea of a national state for the Jewish people. The best proof of this reality is that these attacks began as soon as Israel ended its occupation of Gaza and uprooted all settlements from the area. Israel left behind agricultural greenhouses and other equipment that the people of Gaza could use if they wanted a decent society.
