On 30.5.25, the Athens Synagogue and the Greek Orthodox Christian Association welcomed Tami Braslavski, mother of Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski, who has been held by Hamas in Gaza for more than 600 days, to the Athens Synagogue. Ms. Braslavski was accompanied by Rom's close relatives, his younger brother Ziv and his cousin Liron.
On 7.10.23, the then 19-year-old Rom was kidnapped by terrorists from the Nova music festival, after having helped save other festivalgoers. During the event, his mother shared her tragedy and that of all the families of the 58 hostages still held in Gaza, emphasizing among other things: "For me, every day is October 7th, and for Rom, it's the same."
The event was addressed by the Ambassador of Israel to Greece, Mr. Noam Katz, the Secretary General of the Hellenic Council of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Victor I. Eliezer, and the Secretary General of the Athens Football Association, Ms. Delia Alhanati, who welcomed the hostage's family and expressed their full sympathy, as well as their support for the fight they are waging for the return of all the hostages to Israel.
Ms. Braslavski's shocking description of the events moved those present, who gave her a prolonged round of applause and wished Rom's family a speedy return to Israel for him and all the hostages.
The event concluded with the presentation to Ms. Braslavski of characteristic commemorative gifts with special symbolism by the president of the I.K. of Athens, Alberto Taramboulos, and the general secretary of KISE for the continued support of Greek Jewry to the families of the hostages.
