The current President of the Israeli Community of Corfu, Zacharias Matathias, passed away in the early hours of Monday 23.6.25 at the age of 73. His loss shocked the local community and the Jewish community of the island, which he had served continuously since 2014, when he was first elected to the position of president. Zacharias Matathias also contributed to the KISE, of which he was a member during the three-year period 2016 – 2019.
His funeral took place on 25.6.25, at the Jewish cemetery, in the presence of the entire Jewish community and local authorities, led by the current Mayor and the former ones, and representatives of the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Diocese, as well as local people.
KISE issued a Resolution HERE in memory of the late Z. Matathias, brother of Anna Matathias, current member of the Board of Directors of KISE.
Resolutions were also issued by the Israeli Communities of Corfu HERE, Larissa HERE, Volos HERE, Ioannina HERE & Chalkida HERE.
