The National Day of Remembrance of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust will be commemorated this year with a two-day event organized by the Region of Thessaly and the Israelite Community of Larissa.

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 6.30:XNUMX p.m., at the Holocaust Memorial, in the square of the Jewish Martyrs of the Occupation, there will be a laying of wreaths by representatives of the Supreme Political and Military Authorities, Embassies and Consulates, Jewish Organizations, Agencies and Associations of the city, a memorial service, a minute of silence, the National Anthem played by the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Larissa, and at 7.30 p.m., in the concert hall of the Larissa Municipal Conservatory, there will be a candle lighting in memory of the 6.000.000 Jewish Victims of the Holocaust, as well as a speech by Mrs. Maria D. Efthimiou, professor emeritus of History, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The event at the DOL of Mrs. Efthymiou's speech will be preceded by greetings from the regional governor of Thessaly, Mr. Dimitris Kouretas, the mayor of Larissa, Mr. Thanasis Mamakos, the president of the Central Jewish Council, Mr. David Saltiel, the president of the Israeli Community of Larissa, Mr. Moses Manouach, while a musical tribute will follow from the InDONNAtion Women's Choir, under the direction of the assistant professor of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, dr. Dimitris Ktistakis, with his work "Five Hebrew love songs by Eric Whitacre". Poetry in Hebrew Hila Pitmann.

The next day, Friday, January 26, a special event will be held by the Directorate of Secondary Education of Larissa, under the auspices of the Regional Directorate of Education Thessaly and the Israelite Community of Larissa at the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa.

At 10 a.m. an event will be held by students for students, with the theme: "Are there human words to describe the Holocaust of the Jews?" The testimonies of young people of Occupied Larissa open a window into history". High school and high school students of Larissa Prefecture participate with presentations in all forms of art.

At 12 p.m., in Anne Frank Square (Erythrou Stavrou Street - Larissa General Hospital), wreaths from schools of Larissa will be placed at the votive column of Anne Frank, in memory of the 1.500.000 children who were victims of the Holocaust.
