*Resolutions were issued on the death of MICHALIS LEVIS CENTRAL BOARD OF JEWISH COMMUNITIES IN GREECE and ISRAELI COMMUNITY OF LARISA.
One of the most important factors for the survival and progress of the Jewish communities during centuries of diaspora was the adaptability them, that is, their ability to deal flexibly with difficult and -often- hostile circumstances, without making any concessions to the observance of Jewish laws.
We experienced a modern example of adaptability this year in Larissa, where in order to celebrate Ros Assana, we had to manage two "fronts": on the one hand, the strict provisions to protect our members from the coronavirus, and on the other hand, the lack of prayer space. Our beautiful Synagogue "Etz Hayim", which the people of Larissa love and visitors admire, has been under restoration for a year. Its old building, seriously damaged by earthquakes, dampness and all kinds of disasters during its 160 years of continuous operation, was deemed dangerous to house us anymore and was completely stripped to accept radical structural interventions. Our services and all our events had been moved next door, to our Spiritual Center, which, however, cannot accommodate many people, according to the covid regulations.
The Community Assembly of the Israelite Community of Larissa elected the new 6 Board of Directors three-year term, which was constituted in a body as follows: President: Ilias Kampelis, Vice president: Moses Manoach, Secretary: Beatrice (Betty) Magrizou, Treasurer: Simeon (Simon) Magrizos, Controller: Nina Tarabulous, Member: Isaac (Jacques) Frances.
On 22/6/2020, there were elections, in the presence of a judicial representative and a 3-member electoral committee, during which the members of the IKL elected the new 25-member Community Assembly, for a three-year term, which consists of the following persons:
On 30.1.2020, the Region of Thessaly, the P.E. Larissa, the Israelite Community of Larissa and the Regional Directorate of Education of Thessaly organized events for Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The events began at the Larissa Holocaust Memorial in Jewish Martyrs' Square, where a memorial service was held by the Rabbi of Larissa Mr. Ilias Sabethai, laying of wreaths by representatives of the High Political and Military Authorities, embassies and consulates, Jewish organizations, agencies and clubs of the city and ended with the playing of the National Anthem by the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Larissa.
This was followed by the main event in the concert hall of the Larissa Municipal Conservatory, which included greetings from the President of the Larissa Regional Council Vassilis Pinakas, the Deputy Mayor of Larissa Giorgos Soultis, the Deputy Secretary General of the Central Jewish Council of Greece Akis Robisa and the President of the Jewish Community Maurice Magrizo of Larissa.
Afterwards, there was the lighting of candles in memory of the 6.000.000 Jewish Victims of the Holocaust, with Mrs. Naki Bega, the last Larissa survivor of Auschwitz, as an emblematic figure, while the keynote speaker of the event was the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos, who, referring to Holocaust of the Jews he emphasized as "the most important genocide of the 20th century", adding that the 235 Jews from Larissa met a horrible death in Auschwitz.
