CELEBRATION OF PURIM IN LARISA

Details
Created : March 20, 2019

The ladies of the Israelite Community of Larissa, on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of "Purim", held an event on 17.3.2019 in the afternoon at the "Metropol" hotel, with the aim of supporting charitable structures of our city.

On "Purim" the Jews of the world remember and recount the true event of their planned genocide, 2.500 years ago in Xerxes' Persia, by the evil Prime Minister Amman and celebrate their salvation, thanks to the courage, faith and female intelligence of Jewish Queen Esther. It is the most joyous Jewish holiday and its customs include dancing and entertainment, masquerade, exchanging sweets between relatives and friends and offering help to those in need.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2019 IN LARISA

Details
Created : January 25, 2019

A unanimous message of condemnation of the most historically terrifying crime of humanity was expressed in the most powerful way by the people of Larisa, thus honoring the memory of the Holocaust, the memory of the six million European Jews and the sixty-seven Greek Jews who met a horrible death at the hands of the Nazi troops, in the crematoria of the concentration camps.

Teaching and memory are tools to avoid similar situations, the Rabbi emphasized Mr. Ilias Sabetai, while the President of the Central Israeli Council of Greece Mr. David Saltiel he made special reference to the "security zone of the Thessalian plain, which saved thousands of innocent Jews from certain death".

We bear the responsibility of forgetting and falsifying the historical truth. What has happened in the past can happen again. Our duty is to keep the memory alive, especially in these days when the rise of the forces of neo-Nazism in Europe is causing alarm", stated in his intervention the president of the Israeli community of Larissa, Mr. Maurice Magrizos.

INTERVIEW OF PRESIDENT I.K. LARISA Mr. MORIS MAGRIZOU

Details
Created : January 11, 2019

Maurice Magrizos was born in 1949 in the city of Larissa to Greek Jewish parents. He is the eldest son of a small-town family, who were engaged in the manufacture of furniture and kept a small commercial shop in the center of the city.

He lived his early childhood years in the neighborhood of Six Roads. While still a teenager and alongside attending school, he helps his father in their family business.

At the age of 21 and having fulfilled his military obligations, he marries the partner of his life, Rosa. Despite the adverse economic conditions of the time, together they decide to take a risk by opening a furniture store.

Relying on hard work and staying true to the belief of the individual responsibility of each person to achieve their goals, he manages to become known in his field.

However, the most important chronological intersection in terms of his professional development will come a little later, at the age of 40. In 1988, therefore, he proceeds to open the "Epiplodomi" exhibition space, a multi-storey privately owned building. With great collaborations in Greece and abroad, it continues to this day to be one of the largest furniture companies in the country. Today, of course, it has passed to the next generation, since it is now run by his daughter, Juliana, and his son, Nino.

PREPARING THE CHILDREN FOR HANUKAH

Details
Created : December 07, 2018

A very nice activity was organized by the Jewish teacher of the Community, Tzakos Algava, at the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa, on Saturday, November 24, 2018.

Elementary and high school children, together with their parents, were guided to the main art collection of the Gallery, as well as to the periodical exhibition of the Jewish Museum "SYNAGONISTIS". There, on the occasion of the coming of Hanukkah, they discussed and paralleled the rebels of '41-'44 with the "rebel" Maccabees, the resistance and heroism of the recent war and the era "nes gadol aya sam...".

Afterwards, the children spent two creative hours in the Gallery's workshop, making and coloring wonderful hanukkiyot and sevibonim (swoors).
