More: EVENTS IN ATHENS FOR THE MEMORIAL DAY OF GREEK JEWISH HOLOCAUST HEROES AND MARTYRS
On the occasion of this year's events for the National Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Israeli Community of Larissa collaborated again with the Regional Directorate of Education of Thessaly, for the participation of schools and students in the anniversary, considering that such efforts bring young people closer, both to the tragic events that marked our history, as well as in the realization of the debt we all have to fight at the root of every attempt to revive racism. Today especially, when the conditions again favor the "hatching of the snake's egg", it is very important to offer such lessons to the youth, and from this point of view the Holocaust can and should be used by Education as a tool to shape conscious young citizens. For this purpose, an exhibition competition was organized among the students of Thessaly High Schools, with the following theme:
"The Nazi atrocities in the concentration camps resulted in the extermination of 6.000.000 Jews. But many were then saved thanks to the solidarity of their Christian fellow citizens, who hid them, at the risk of their lives.
What do you think drives people to such grandiose acts? Do you think that in our age, under similar circumstances, people would show the same solidarity?"
The participation in the competition was great, but the most important thing is that the team of teachers involved in evaluating them had a hard time choosing, since most of the exhibitions were very good. The three distinguished students attended the Synagogue and were awarded during the Holocaust Remembrance event, organized by the Region of Thessaly and I.K. Larissa, on Tuesday January 29, 2013. Their prizes, offered by the Larissa Community, were from a i-pod for the second and third place winners and one laptop for the first and were presented by the Regional Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Costas Agorastos, the General Secretary of Religious Affairs, Mr. Giorgos Kalantzis and the President of I.K. Mr. Maurice Magrizos of Larisa respectively.
