In voluntary blood donation which was organized, in collaboration with the Blood Donation Unit of the Larissa General Hospital, in the area of our Spiritual Center, on 16.2.12, regular as well as new blood donors responded, thus significantly strengthening our Community Blood Bank.

Ceremony at the Larissa Synagogue

Eyes clouded with emotion, Naki Bega, the last survivor of the death camps in the Community of Larissa, lit the first of six candles in memory of the 6.000.000 victims of the Holocaust, thus opening the ceremony for the National Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust, which took place in the Synagogue of Larissa, on January 26, 2012. She was followed by the Rabbi and the president of the Community, as well as children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of hostages, lighting the remaining candles, as a small tribute to the innocent victims of the most heinous crime of human history.

A scientific paper was dedicated to the memory of the honorary president of the Israeli Community of Larissa, Esdras Moses, which was announced on the 21^ο Panhellenic Historical Conference, organized by the Hellenic Historical Society and the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and held at the Faculty of Philosophy of AUTH on May 28-30, 2010.

The paper announced by the Dr. of Comparative Literature, Mr. Alexandros Kalesis, in collaboration with the professor of AUTH, Mr. Yiannis Skourtis, is entitled: "The financial contribution of the Jewish Community of Larissa to the international mobilization of its co-religionists (1931)" and refers to fundraisers by the Jews of Larissa in 1931 to support the creation of the Israeli State.

"Memory is important and the need for children to be taught history, because I take the example of the 'Bromo-Greeks'. It was the way they used to call the Greek immigrants in the USA. They were never called Greeks but they were always called 'Bromo-Hellenic'. And if the Greeks knew this today, we might have a different culture of tolerance towards immigrants and diversity. We must do the same towards every social group, such as the Jews, because, as a minority, they are often the object of racist behavior. I believe we should follow what the sign at the entrance to Auschwitz says: "If we do not learn from our past, we are doomed to repeat it."

The well-known journalist and director Mr. Stelios Kouloglou, who was the keynote speaker at the National Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was celebrated in Larissa on January 27, 2011, in the presence of local authorities and agencies, summed up his speech based on this central idea. and crowds of people.
