Blood and food. Priceless offers that one can make, even in times of economic crisis. With this in mind, the Board of Directors of the Larissa Community invited its members to show their solidarity towards fellow human beings who are suffering or who find it difficult to meet even the basic needs of everyday life. In voluntary blood donation which was organized, in collaboration with the Blood Donation Unit of the Larissa General Hospital, in the area of our Spiritual Center, on 16.2.12, regular as well as new blood donors responded, thus significantly strengthening our Community Blood Bank.
Ceremony at the Larissa Synagogue
Eyes clouded with emotion, Naki Bega, the last survivor of the death camps in the Community of Larissa, lit the first of six candles in memory of the 6.000.000 victims of the Holocaust, thus opening the ceremony for the National Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust, which took place in the Synagogue of Larissa, on January 26, 2012. She was followed by the Rabbi and the president of the Community, as well as children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of hostages, lighting the remaining candles, as a small tribute to the innocent victims of the most heinous crime of human history.
The new ambassador of Israel in Greece, Mr. Arieh Mekel, made his first visit to the Community of Larissa, on Friday, February 25, 2011. Accompanied by the president of the Community, Mr. Maurice Magrizos and the director of the Community Office, Ms. Alina Mousis, he was guided to the Holocaust Memorial of the city and visited the Hebrew School of Larissa, where he met with the Hebrew teacher Mrs. Rifka Baruch and with his few students, who moved him with their warm welcome and their performance in Hebrew.
