On 24.4.2025, on the occasion of the first visit to Thessaloniki of the new Spanish ambassador to Greece, Jorge Domecq, the I.C. of Thessaloniki, the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki, the Spanish Embassy in Greece and the Cervantes Institute in Greece, organized the presentation of the book El espanyol sephardí by Manuel Gálvez Ibáñez at the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki.
This is, as the author states, the first book published and edited exclusively in Judeo-Spanish in the history of Spain. This work aims to make readers fall in love with the history, culture and language of the Sephardim, but also to prevent the extinction of this language.
Before the presentation of the book by the author, Manuel Gálvez Ibáñez, the President of KISE and the I.K. Thessaloniki, David Saltiel, and the Spanish Ambassador to Greece, Jorge Domecq, addressed the event. The Director of the Cervantes Institute in Athens, Pilar Tena, presented the author's writings.
The event was honored with the presence of, among others, the former Vice-President of the European Commission and former Commissioner for the Promotion of the European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, and the Honorary Consul of Spain in Thessaloniki, Sam Nahmias.
On the same day, the Spanish Ambassador was given a tour of the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki for the first time by the Museum's Scientific Director, Dr. Xenia Eleftheriou.
