As part of the events marking the 82nd anniversary of the departure of the first train bound for Auschwitz, on Saturday, March 15, a presentation was held of Xenia Eleftheriou's book entitled "Tracing Local History, the Holocaust in Education and Public History".
The event took place in the foyer of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
President Ms. Eugenia Alexandropoulou-Agyptiadou and Artistic Director Mr. Christos Galileas welcomed those present.
On behalf of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, a greeting was delivered by the Vice President of the Community Council, Mr. Lazaros Seficha, while the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. Kalatzis, was represented by Ms. Domna Hatzigiannakou.
Mr. Dimitris Mavroskoufis, Professor Emeritus of the School of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Mr. Leon Nar, Doctor of Modern Greek Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and author, Ms. Tatiana Liani, Doctor of Comparative Literature and the author of the book, Dr. Xenia Eleftheriou, spoke about the book.
The discussion was moderated by Ms. Eleni Chontolidou, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The speakers praised the author's penetrating research, which highlights in her book not only the intense phenomenon of anti-Semitism and ignorance but also ways to resolve it through educational programs and training seminars.
After the speeches, questions raised by the audience were answered and a discussion followed.
