Statements about the Holocaust Museum and the reconstruction of Eleftheria Square
On Thursday, March 17, a press conference was held in Thessaloniki ahead of the Memorial March for the victims of the Holocaust under the title "Never again, Thessaloniki - Auschwitz - 79 years since the departure of the first train" which will take place next Sunday, March 20, 2022 in the presence of the President of the Republic of Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The press conference was attended by the mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas, the deputy mayor, deputy mayor for Culture and Tourism Maria Karagianni, the president of KISE and I.K. Thessaloniki David Saltiel, the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Nikos Papaioannou, the Rector of the University of Macedonia Stylianos Katranidis and the representative of the International University of Greece, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Social and Economic Sciences Manolis Manoledakis.

On Sunday 20 March 2022 the silent march of Remembrance will take place "Never again, Thessaloniki - Auschwitz - 79 years since the departure of the first train». The march is co-organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Macedonia, the International University of Greece and the Israelite Community of Thessaloniki.
In this year's event, the leader of the march will be S.A. the President of the Republic Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
The March of Remembrance will begin at 11:00 from Liberty Square and will end at 12:00 p.m. at the site of the Old Railway Station where a short ceremony will take place.

With the Askava, the memorial prayer, and in an atmosphere of emotion, the commemoration of the Holocaust of the Jewish community of Thessaloniki was held on 30.1.2022 in Eleftherias Square, in front of the Holocaust Memorial.
In their greetings, the political representatives and the heads of the Israeli Community, at a high level, pointed out the importance of keeping alive the memory of the Jewish Holocaust, but also the contribution that the construction of the Holocaust Museum of Greece in Thessaloniki and the creation of a memorial park in Eleftherias Square.
In his greeting o Deputy Minister of the Interior responsible for matters of Macedonian Thrace, Stavros Kalafatis, emphasized that the attempted annihilation of a people and the consequences of Nazism and totalitarianism should not be forgotten. He emphasized the importance of creating the Holocaust Museum in order to preserve the memory against intolerance.
A press conference was held on 25.1.22, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, on the occasion of the concert co-organized by IKTH, KOTH and OMMTH on the occasion of KOTH's concert with Gil Shaham for the National Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was attended by the Presidents of OMMTH Mr. Vassilis Gakis, IKTH Mr. David Saltiel and ETOS Mr. Stathis Georgiadis.
Ο President of OMMTH, Mr. Vassilis Gakis pointed out that: “…The veil of silence should not cover everything. Because silence is a moral bankruptcy which not only "burdens" consciences, but strengthens the efforts of those who purposefully attempt to distort the truth. We, as the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, will highlight the historical memory of the Holocaust as befits. We will approach it through Art and present it to the public as we did with the Armenian genocide, as we will do on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Disaster. You see, our country has experienced the tragedy of two Genocides. Of the Greeks of Pontus, the Greeks of Asia Minor and our Jewish fellow citizens...".

Working meeting with the president of KISE and I.K. Thessaloniki David Saltiel had on 18.1.2022 at the City Hall, the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas.
During the meeting, which took place in a warm climate, the Mayor of Thessaloniki reiterated that his commitment to the surface configuration of Freedom Square as a memorial park is absolutely strong.
The Municipality of Thessaloniki and I.K. Thessaloniki, as it was decided, will be in constant and close cooperation, so that the project of the reconstruction of Eleftheria Square will proceed together with the fastest possible procedures.
