FILM about the "HIDDEN CHILDREN" of the OCCUPATION at the CHALKIDAS DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL

On October 6 & 7, 2011, within the framework of the Chalkida Documentary Festival, the documentary entitled "Kiss to the Children" by the director Mr. Vassilis Loule, whose first screening took place at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival last March, was screened. 

The film focuses on the period of persecution of Greek Jews during the German Occupation. Through the personal stories of five "hidden children", and maintaining their childish perspective, the documentary tries to shed light on that tragic time.

THE CELEBRATION IN CHALKIDA

In 2010, the great Yamim Noraim festivities began at I.K. Chalkidas with the selikhot of the eve of Rosh Asana on 8.9.2010. On the first day of the holiday, the morning prayer took place, with the reading of the Torah and the blowing of the shofar. The service was attended by our members, mainly members of our youth.
Although a few days ago, the Community of Chalkida was marked by the loss of two of its dear members, Esdra Cohen and Vikas Frizis, the presence of mainly young people in the Synagogue instills hope and consolation in our souls and arms us with courage to continue our project.

THE BIG CELEBRATION IN CHALKIDA

The celebration of the High Holidays in Chalkida began with the Selichot on the eve of Rosh Hashanah.  On Saturday, 19.9.09, the morning prayer was held with the reading of the Torah and in the afternoon the Taslich was held in the garden of the Synagogue, with which we begged God to forgive our mistakes and absolve us of our sins. The next day the morning prayer took place and because of the intercession of Shabbat, the Shofar was sounded at the Sunday morning prayer. During these days, the Synagogue functioned with Mr. Chaim Ishaki and the hazan of the Community, Mr. Issachar Cohen. The function was attended by the members of the Community.

On 27.4.09, a memorial service for Holocaust Remembrance Day was held at the Chalkida Synagogue by the hazan Mr. Cohen. This was followed by a speech by Ms. Beky Kosti, who referred to the resurgence of anti-Semitism and Nazism, as well as the chronicle of the Pleuris trial.
