A minute's silence was held in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament observed, on the occasion of January 27, which has been established as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust.
In her pre-order report, the Speaker of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, said that the mass and methodical extermination of millions of Jews by the Nazi regime constituted the sad culmination of a series of crimes against humanity committed in the maelstrom and death hells of the Second World War.
"Already seventy-eight years later, the commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day is not merely symbolic, but imperative, as the old continent and modern democracies constantly face the unprecedented phenomena of a product of racism and anti-Semitism, calling community values into question and the European edifice itself, preeminently the initiator and guardian of democratic peace," he said.
With the "shadow" of anti-Semitism and intolerance looming as a perennial threat, in the midst of disturbing events that took place during 2022, the event took place in the context of World Holocaust Remembrance Day, with the organizational responsibility of the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
The famous illustrator - and professor of the School of Visual Arts - Victor Koen (Victor Koen), captivated the attendees with an emotionally charged and careful presentation, with protagonists members of his family from the Greek Jewish community, who experienced the uprooting, the shadow of death but also physical and mental torture during the period of Nazi atrocities.
Following the stories and walking step by step through those "dark" days, which cost or forever marked the lives of millions of people, Mr. Cohen reiterated that no one should forget or overlook what the Jews suffered - but humanity in general - from Nazism.

Two months ago I was in Israel for the second time and visited it Yad Vashem, the Holocaust History Museum located near Jerusalem. The museum experience, reconstructed in 2005, is sensational. The main part of the museum is an elongated prism-shaped building that creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. It is 180 meters long, but the visitor cannot cross it in a straight line: he must follow a serpentine path that "enters" and "exits" the prism, following a narrative.
