Pierce, on the occasion of World Holocaust Remembrance Day, organized a series of events this year (2023), culminating on Friday 27 January, a day designated by the UN as the day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust by the Nazi regime, during Second World War.
From Monday, January 23 to Friday, January 27, the creations of XNUMXrd high school students were exhibited in the lobby of the school, resulting from the collaboration with the Department of Museology of the University of Ioannina, under the guidance of Associate Professor Esther Solomon and the exhibition Art in the Holocaust of Yad Vashem. In addition, the school library was converted into a Holocaust Information Center with the most modern and up-to-date publications on the Second World War period. Finally, during the week all students of the school were informed in the English class about the Holocaust, the Greek Jewish communities and the meaning of the terms genocide, hate speech and disinformation/propaganda.
On the initiative of the Association of Parents and Guardians of 2th Trikala Primary School, and the cooperation of the teachers of the School, the EME and the I.K. Trikala, the School held an educational activity for Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023. The Parents' Association posted the following entry and photos from the event at facebook:
An event was held on Friday 27.1.23 at our school for the International Day of Remembrance of the Millions of Holocaust Victims, in collaboration with the Israeli Community of Trikala and the kind help of the Jewish Museum of Greece. An event with audio-visual material, with a speech by our school's teacher, Mr. Kittas Stavrou, and with an experiential narration by a descendant of a Holocaust victim, Mr. Varuch Matathias.
It is the duty & responsibility of all of us to pass on the knowledge and lessons of the Holocaust, to instill in our children the need for equality and justice, but also the danger of intolerance and anti-Semitism, which we must eliminate.
