On Friday, October 14, 2022, in the "Jacqueline de Romigi" room of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, in the presence of the General Secretary of Religious Affairs, Mr. G. Kalantzis, the debriefing meeting and the awarding of prizes and commendations to the distinguished students in the 8th grade took place Student Competition to create a short film on the theme "The Holocaust and the Greek Jews".
During the 2021-2022 school year, despite the adverse conditions of the pandemic, 32 schools took part in the competition with 59 films from 150 8st and XNUMXnd grade high school students. The students who distinguished themselves in the XNUMXth Student Competition participated in an educational program of the Jewish Museum of Greece, which included a preparatory meeting and an educational visit to the "Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum" in Poland.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the results of the 8th Student Competition "The Holocaust and the Greek Jews" of the 2021-2022 school year were announced, according to the evaluation of the competent committee.
The awardees and distinguished persons in the competition conducted by the General Secretariat of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Jewish Museum of Greece, will participate in a special annual educational program of the Jewish Museum of Greece which includes an educational visit to the Museum of Auschwitz (when conditions permit).

On February 25 and 26, 2022, the work of the international conference on "Holocaust, Genocides and Mass Atrocities: Remembering the Past to Protect the Future" took place at the Elite City Resort Hotel in Kalamata, organized by the Ministry of Education and Religion and the Diocese of Messinia, with the support of the US Embassy in Athens and the Fulbright Greece Foundation and joined the actions of the Greek Presidency of the IHRA.
At the beginning of the work, the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameos, delivered a greeting via teleconference, the Metropolitan of Messinia, Mr. Chrysostomos, the Israeli Ambassador to Greece, Yossi Amrani, the US Ambassador to Greece, Jeffrey Pyatt, via teleconference, the President of IHRA, Giorgos Polydorakis and via video conference AJC CEO David Harris.
The statement of the Metropolitan of Messinia, Mr. Chrysostomos, is characteristic, who stated that the Conference is very important because it concerns the major issue of the Holocaust and genocides, making special mention of the personalities who participated, while he also praised the importance of holding such an event in the city of Kalamata.

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Nikis Kerameos, the Director of the French Foundation Mémorial de la Shoah Jacques Fredj, the President of the Jewish Museum of Greece Maki Matsa and the President of the MOHA Research Center Anna Missirian.
The aim of the Memorandum is to strengthen and put on a stable basis the implementation of activities and seminars for teachers and students with a central focus on genocides and the Holocaust. Among other things, it is foreseen that the contracting parties will organize trainings for teachers, students and civil society regarding the Genocides of the twentieth century, while the possibility of educational programs on the Holocaust that will be addressed to education officials and more widely will be explored. of the public or other interested bodies.
During the signing, Minister Nikis Kerameos thanked the representatives of the organizations, emphasizing the importance that the Ministry of Education and Religion attaches to teaching about the Holocaust and Genocides, especially at a time when, unfortunately, we see wars breaking out on European lands, awakening memories from the darkest pages of our history.
The Municipality treated the memorial stones, so that those who pass in front of the old XNUMXst Boys' High School can clearly distinguish the names of the students who fell victim to the Nazi atrocities
"One hundred and forty-nine students of all classes of the 8st Boys Gymnasium of Thessaloniki were students on 4.1943"... An equal number of bronze stones with their names engraved are placed on the ground outside the school, in Vasilissis Olgas, precisely to honor the memory of the Jewish children who were displaced to the concentration camps. Of the 149 children, only six survived.
In a move full of symbolism, on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, as part of its cleaning action, took care of the memorial stones, so that those passing by on the sidewalk in front of the old XNUMXst Boys' Gymnasium to clearly distinguish the names of the Jewish students of the school who fell victim to the Nazi atrocity.
