On 18.7.2024, exactly at 09.53 local Buenos Aires time, in the place where 30 years ago the AMIA Jewish Center was destroyed by a bomb explosion, in the presence of the President of Argentina Javier Milei, started the official event on the tragic anniversary of the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 85 people. Hezbollah, with the decisive support of Iran, was responsible for the strike and to this day continues its terrorist activity.
International community and Jewish organizations - including delegations of WJCOf ADLOf AJCOf CRIF, et al.- participated in the events in Buenos Aires and with various events and statements signaled the need to fight terrorism and inform about anti-Semitism.
As part of the events, Special Envoys on Anti-Semitism from 30 countries, on the initiative of the American Deborah Lipstadt, discussed and presented them "Global Guidelines for Combating Anti-Semitism", an action plan for governments and civil society actors. On behalf of Greece, the Guidelines are signed by Ambassador Chrysoula Aliferi, Special Envoy for the Fight against Anti-Semitism.
At the same time, the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and the Jewish Council of Latin America organized an international conference on terrorism and security, in the presence of the Presidents of Argentina, Paraguay Santiago Peña and Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou.
For its part, ADL launched the first training workshop "Words to Action" in Buenos Aires, marking an essential first step in combating anti-Semitism in the region through education.
On the sidelines of the events, the delegations of the Jewish organizations had special meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina Diana Mondino and the Minister of Public Order and Security Waldo Wolff.
